Statement
Alexandra Broches lives and maintains her studio in Wakefield, Rhode Island and has been a member of Hera Gallery since 1975. In addition to several solo and group shows at Hera, she has exhibited her work extensively both in New England and nationally, including a solo show at The Print Center, Philadelphia, Pa. Recent group exhibitions include shows at Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky; Newspace Center for Photography, Portland, OR; Eastern Carolina University, Greenville, NC; A.I.R. Gallery, New York City, and the traveling exhibition, Beijing and Beyond, Women Artists Respond to the World Conference on Women.
She has curated several exhibitions including, Memory, Identity and Place, in 2005, Sites of Memory and Honor, and Hera Gallery: the First Thirty Years both in 2004. In 1995 she represented Hera Gallery on a panel sponsored by the Women’s Caucus for Art at the NGO Forum on Women of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. She was a resident fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in 2008 and 2005.
The work represented by this photograph reflects the interest that underlies all her work, the relationship between culture and nature, man and our landscape.
