"Carnage II"

Artist Statement: Carnage Series

“Erinnerung aus dem Exil, “ consisting of 18 digitized memory panels, represents a transnational, inter-generational conversation about the Holocaust.  The “Carnage Series” foreshadows the larger project.  I pinned images of wounds, cuts, bruises, and lacerations of all kinds onto my studio walls, simulating a close up encounter with injury and human vulnerability. Each memory panel contains evidence of blood, seeping through the cracks, sometimes erupting into an open wound, to conjure up the widespread violence characterizing the Holocaust, as well as the practice of using blood as one measure of racial selection.
