Statement

My paintings and monoprints express my interest in the human need to leave a visual mark of our existence with my interest in the function of the brain.

A written language can be seen as a combination of signs and symbols that enable expression and communication. These signs and symbols – that are hidden in ancient languages or reflect contemporary life – have a powerful ability to attest to our presence, embody our experiences, and convey a sense of historical continuity.

Handwriting is a very special and individual mark– sometime the only thing that is left behind. The deconstruction of handwritten words into signs and their free reassemblage lead me to a visual abstract imagery that preserves the link to the past and projects into the future. My compositions narrate tales of these signs and symbols through the rhythm of forms, textures, and colors.
